What heating systems do you install?
Design Heating can install traditional gas, oil and LPG boiler systems as well as modern eco-friendly air source heat pumps.
Which heating system is best for my home?
That depends on a mix of things, including where your property is situated and your own preferences. We can discuss all this at your free consultation.
Do you provide servicing and maintenance for heating systems?
In addition to installing your heating system, our engineers can be booked to provide regular services and maintenance to ensure your heating system continues to function optimally for years to come.
What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a UK government initiative designed to encourage the adoption of low-carbon heating systems - including air source heat pumps - by offering grants to reduce installation costs.
How much is the grant worth?
Grants for up to £7,500 are available to homeowners upgrading from a fossil fuel burning boiler to an air source heat pump.
What types of properties qualify?
Your property qualifies for a grant if both of the following are true. You must:
- own the property you're applying for (including if it's a business, a second home, or a property you rent out to tenants)
- be replacing fossil fuel heating systems - such as oil, gas, electric or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)
How much does it cost to install a new heating system?
Heating System | Typical Cost | BUS Grant | Typical Cost with BUS |
---|---|---|---|
ASHP | £7,500 - £12,000 | £7,500 | £0.00 - £4,500 |
Gas Boiler | £2,000 - £3,500 | N/A | £2,000 - £3,500 |
LPG Boiler | £2,000 - £3,500 | N/A | £2,000 - £3,500 |
Oil Boiler | £3,000 - £4,500 | N/A | £3,000 - £4,500 |
Are there financing options available?
We don't currently offer financing options through Design Heating, but you should be able to organise one through your bank or other third party provider of loans.
What are the running costs of different systems?
Heating System | Annual Running Cost for Avg. Home | Estimated Lifespan |
---|---|---|
ASHP | £400 - £700 | 15 - 20 Years |
Gas Boiler | £900 - £1,200 | 10 - 15 Years |
LPG Boiler | £1,200 - £1,600 | 10 - 15 Years |
Oil Boiler | £1,200 - £1,800 | 10 - 15 Years |
How do air source heat pumps help reduce carbon emissions?
Traditional boilers burn fossil fuels to create heat. Air source heat pumps use a small amount of electricity to run a pump that exploits the temperature differences between the inside and outside of your house to generate heat (the opposite of how a refrigerator works). If that electricity is created from a renewable energy source then the carbon footprint for the system will be negligible.
Are heat pumps noisy?
Air source heat pumps produce a low level of noise. Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) planning includes a minimum noise level of 42 decibels within one meter of a door or window. To put that into perspective: 40 decibels is a quiet library and 50 decibels is gentle rainfall.
Can I still install a heat pump if my home isn't well insulated?
All heating systems are more efficient in well insulated homes. If your home is badly insulated you should look to address this regardless of whether you are heating it with a traditional boiler or an air source heat pump.
How long does it take to install an air source heat pump?
This will depend on the size of your property and which systems (e.g. radiators) will need replacing or adapting to work with the new heat source. The smallest properties could in theory be installed in a single day, but we would typically expect to be working on a property for 2-5 days depending on the complexity of the installation.
Will there be a lot of disruption during installation?
We will endeavour to cause as little disruption as possible during the installation of your new heating system. However if there are new radiators and piping to be fitted it is inevitable that there will be some minimal disruption and you may be without your main source of heating during the period of the installation.
Do you remove and dispose of old heating systems?
Yes we can safely dispose of your old heating system, please request this and we can include the cost in your quote.
